Tattoo aftercare in the monsoon that you need to know about

Aftercare starts as soon as your tattoo is done. Tattoos need care in all seasons. During the summer months, tattoos heal a little slower due to direct sun exposure and intensive sweating. In the winter season, you are all covered, and thus your tattoo will heal much faster. It is undoubtedly way more challenging to maintain a tattoo during the monsoon as there is a high chance of getting infected if not cared for properly.
With the right aftercare tips, tattoos, in all seasons, can adequately be maintained and cared for. Delhi-based tattoo artist Angel Zimik shares a few steps below on how to take care of and maintain your tattoos.

Keep your tattoo clean and dry

One of the main things to keep in mind during the monsoon season is to keep your tattoo clean and dry. With rain comes humidity and it is riskier than the summer/winter season because it creates the perfect environment for bacteria. Closed-off, moist areas of damaged skin are perfect scenarios for tattoo infections. So make sure to keep them clean and dry.

Stay moisturized

One of the most significant ways to preserve your tattoo ink is to keep it well moisturized. A new tattoo can get extremely uncomfortable if your skin starts to peel. But keep in mind “to not over moisturize” as the weather during the monsoon is humid and can lead to small blisters or infection if over-moisturized.

Your everyday lotion is not a good option for moisturizing your tattoo. Please use the cream recommended by your artist.

Avoid soaking your tattoo

It is common knowledge that taking long baths or soaking your new tattoo for a long time underwater, especially in the monsoon season, can leave your tattoo feeling sensitive and irritated. So, avoid these during this weather, particularly in the first 2 weeks of getting your new tattoo.

You should also avoid swimming in salted water and chlorinated pools, as the chlorine can bleach out the ink in your new tattoo.

Wear loose clothing

If you just got a new tattoo, consider wearing loose clothing that allows your skin to breathe and does not rub against your tattooed skin and bandages. Also, don’t forget to practice any moisturizing and dressing routines your tattoo artist suggested.

Avoid going into the rain

Getting your tattoo soaked in the rain can result in infections that end up destroying your tattoo along with causing you extreme distress. However, this does not mean you can not get your tattoo wet. A little rain is okay if you’re accidentally caught in it but avoid getting it soaked completely.
